NOVEMBER CALENDAR

Saturday, November 4th, 9:30 meet at 1 Smithfield St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. for a 10:00 bus departure for a day of Shopping at the Grove City Outlets and meet back at Vanity Fair at 4:30 to fill out a Volunteer Survey Form with the bus leaving the Outlet at 5:00 and getting back to 1 Smithfield St approximately at 6:30, the bus cost is $15.00 cash or check as you enter. The bus is currently full so if you need to cancel or want to be on the waiting list call Peggy Walsh by November 1st, at 412-683-6070.

Saturday, November 11, 2017, 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, Indoor Adaptive Kayaking Introduction Workshop with Venture Outdoors, limit 4 participants, cost $10.00, held in the heated pool of Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh, 1405 Shady Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217, call Venture Outdoors to reserve at 412-255-0564. These workshops will continue being held on the third Saturday of the month from January through April 2018. Anyone who takes one of these workshops is eligible for a learn to paddle kayaking instruction at North Park with a one on one Venture Outdoor Guide that will be held in the spring or summer of 2018. For more information about kayaking with BOLD and Venture Outdoors call Nancy Leverett at 412-561-3972.

Saturday November 18 at 12pm, Lunch at a South Side restaurant TBA, then hike with Veronique along the Mon river on a level trail from 1:30 to 2:30pm. Peggy is the reservationist, and will tell you at what restaurant we are meeting. Call her at 412-683-6070 by November 15 in the evening.

Tuesday, November 7 will be the next Board meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at One Smithfield Street. All are welcome! Please contribute your ideas for future activities. To let Tammi know you will be there, call 412-488-6298 by 10 PM on the previous Sunday.

Wednesdays November 1, 15 & 29: Mall Walking at the Monroeville Mall from 9 AM to 11 AM. To sign up with Joyce Driben by 9 PM the Thursdays before, call 412-521-4385.

Thursdays November 2 & 16: Mall Walking at the Ross Park Mall from 10 to 12 noon on both days.
To reserve for the 2nd, call Pat DePasquale, 412-492-1692, by 9 PM on Sunday Oct 29. To sign up for Thursday the 16th, phone Toni Kelly, 412-965-4443, by 9pm on Sunday, November 12.

Thursdays November 2, 9, 16 & 30: (skipping Nov 23), Yoga from 2:30 to 4 PM at Squirrel Hill's Schoolhouse Yoga Studio: 2215 Murray Ave. Copay is $10, or optional $15 if the group is very small. The sign-up deadline with Veronique Schreurs, 412-225-4038, is the Tuesdays before by 9pm.

PAST EVENTS

Thanks, Ray, his brother and sister and friends for a fabulous house party on September 23 with good food and fun games, such as “screw you neighbor”!

On October 8 we had a fun auction that netted BOLD about $300! We had a few friendly bidding wars that ended in peace. May all wars end like that! Thanks to Bill Burgunder who volunteered to do the calling since Terri had no voice. Thanks to all who helped make this event fun, by donating, buying and helping.

LOOKING AHEAD

It’s time again for our Holiday Party! Sunday December 10 from 2-5pm at the Human Services building on 1 Smithfield St downtown. The menu will be in the next newsletter, the cost is $12 per person. If you come early, please wait upstairs in the lobby till we have the room ready. Penny is the reservationist, 412-415-3871, deadline December 3.

Sunday Oct 22 at 2pm Pittsburgh opera: “The marriage of Figaro” presents the opera up close at the Opera headquarters, 2425 Liberty Av, Strip district, use 24th street entrance. Call Marilyn Egan at 412-281-0912, Ext 242 to reserve. The audio-described performance of Figaro will be Tuesday Nov 7th at 7:00pm at the Benedum Downtown. Friday November 10, 8pm, New Hazlett theatre, 6 Allegheny Square E, “All is quiet on the western front” will have audio description. Play last about 2 hrs. For tickets call 724-773-0700

Sunday December 3, City Theatre, 1300 Bingham St, South Side “The old man and the old moon”, 1pm: introductory workshop for blind patrons, play starts at 2pm, tickets: $22 with or without a sighted companion. Info: 412-431-4900.

BOLD BITS

During the month of November, Carnegie Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped will host a tactile art show in cooperation with the Pittsburgh Society of Sculptors. Entitled “Somatosensory: Relating to the Senses”, the exhibit opens Friday night, November 3, from 5 – 7 PM and will feature 12 pieces of tactile artwork. Light refreshments will be served on Nov 3rd. The show runs until Friday, December 1st.

Pittsburgh Topcat Blind Bowling League is welcoming new members. Totally blind, partially sighted, and sighted persons are welcome. We bowl every Tuesday evening from 6-00 p.m. promptly until approximately 8-30 p.m. Location; Arsenal Lanes 4426 Butler Street. Cost is $15.00 per week. The first Lutheran Center dinner, 535 N. Neville St, Oakland. Limit: 25 people who are blind or vision impaired. The next one will be on Saturday November 4, 5pm, sign up by before Saturday October 28 by 6pm at 412-682-1800.
