DECEMBER CALENDAR

Monday December 3 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM: Bold Board meeting at the Human Services building, 1 Smithfield Ave., downtown. All are welcomed to attend. Please call Tammi Swiantek 412-488-6298 by November 30.

Saturday December 1 from 9am to 12:30pm: Swimming (from 9:15-11:15am, then pizza) at our current location: The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh, 1405 Shady Ave. Pittsburgh PA 15217 in Squirrel Hill, optional donation: $5.00. It is a full sized indoor pool with the temperature in the nineties. Reserve with Penny Fleckenstein, 412-415-3871 by Wednesday November 28. Note: people may want to go directly from swimming to the Holiday Party.

Saturday December 1 from 2-5pm: Holiday party at the Human Services building, 1 Smithfield St. downtown. Menu: Beef au jus, boneless stuffed chicken breast with gravy, and Vegetable lasagna, Sides: roasted potatoes, mixed vegetables, and spinach salad, and includes rolls and butter, coffee, tea and soft drinks or water. The cost of catering has been donated by Nancy & Bruce Leverett, so there is no charge for the participants! Limit: 50 people.

Reserve with Peggy Walsh by 9pm on November 20. Optional: bring snacks or a dessert.

Thursday December 6: ONLY Friendship Walk and Talk at Ross Park Mall from 10am till noon. To reserve, call Pat DePasquale by Sunday December 2: 412-492-1692.

Wednesday December 12 is the only day when Mall Walking will be held at the Monroeville Mall from 9 to 11 AM. To sign up with Joyce Driben the Thursday before: 412-521-4385.

Thursdays December 6, 13, 20 and 27: Yoga at Squirrel Hill’s Schoolhouse Studio: 2215 Murray Ave. from 2:30 to 4 PM. Cost, $10 per person ($15 optional if the group is small). Reserve the Tuesday before with Veronique 412-225-4038.

When we hold our Holiday Party on Saturday, December 1st, there will also be a 50/50 raffle. Remember: you can’t win unless you buy at least one ticket for $1!

Advocacy & Advisory Group Holiday Party, December 11th from 1-3:30pm

The Holidays are upon us once again! Join us on December 11th for a Holiday Party here at LBPH in honor of our outstanding Advocacy group. Sandwich rings will be provided along with chips and drinks while deserts will be potluck style. Name that tune will be returning this year complete with prizes! It is sure to be a joyous occasion. Accessible Movie Afternoon: Hearing is Believing, December 14th from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

In a world filled with Noise, there is another Sound worth Hearing, and her name is Rachel Flowers. “Hearing is Believing” introduces the world to the life and music of the multi-talented 23-year old musician and composer, Rachel Flowers. Directed by Lorenzo DeSefano. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. Live piano and guitar music will be played for 20 minutes before the documentary begins.

Wednesday, December 19 from 1 PM to 2:30 is our next Accessible Tech Training at CLP-LBPH. Join us for a hands-on tech training focusing on tablet and smart phone accessibility options.

The Lutheran Center for the Blind will hold their monthly meal and Christmas Party on Saturday, December 8 from 5 to 7 PM. To find out whether there will be a special program afterward, phone Sherri Crum: 412-682-1800. To sign up for this party, call Sherri between Saturday, November 24th and 6 PM Saturday, December 1st.

We would like to extend Get Well Wishes to Cindy Perseo, who has just recovered from a severe bout with bronchitis, and Carol Platt, who recently had a procedure on her stomach.

Happy Birthday to Ernie College, Celeste Compomizzi, Ethel DeIuliis, Karen Seligman, Tina Wassermann, and anyone else with a December birthday.
