JOYFUL JANUARY

PAST EVENTS
When the November 16th auction was held, ten BOLD members and one guest attended (see Personal Perspective).

LOOKING AHEAD
In January, Joyce Driben will call Camp Kon-o-Kwee to schedule a May weekend.

The Sundays in February and March when skiing will be held are: February 1st and 22nd; March 8th and March 22nd.

ADMINISTRATIVE ADD-ONS
With no one having run for office, the Board members are: President, Tammi Swiantek; First Vice-President, Nancy Leverett; Second Vice-President, Penny Fleckensteine; Recording Secretary, Board members will take turns; Corresponding Secretary, Terri Winaught; Treasurer, Veronique Schreurs; and Membership Chair, Veronique Schreurs. Thank you for your dedication.

PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE
Almost immediately after the November 16th Fundraising auction, our tremendous Treasurer Veronique Schreurs wrote the following to-the-point reflection:

The fundraiser was fun. The net proceeds were $141. The venue was great, I think all including my helper Xiaoping and I had a great time. Not a bad way to raise $141 while having fun and occasionally going into a minor bidding war!

To be interviewed for or submit an already written Personal Perspective, phone 412-263-2022, or E-mail t.winaught@verizon.net.

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS
Call Joyce Driben at 412-521-4385 if interested in attending upcoming Symphony concerts. When phoning, tell Joyce how many free tickets you'd like per concert and ask about dates.

On January 3rd, the Pittsburgh Opera will present their free monthly Brown Bag Lunch series. The time is always noon to 1, and the Venue is always 2425 Liberty Ave.
January's free Tuesday Music Club concert will begin at 12:30 PM on the 13th.

The next City Theatre play will be in February, with details in that month's newsletter.

January 11th is when the Pittsburgh Opera will present their next Opera Up Close followed by a sensory workshop for persons who are blind or vision impaired. Rodelinda is the opera about which the workshop will be, and the cost of Opera Up Close will be $5. The venue will be the Opera's headquarters: 2425 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh's Strip District, 15222. To let Marilyn Egan know by 5 PM on Wednesday the 7th that you will attend, phone 412-281-0912, x242. When marking your place, let Marilyn know if you will be at Opera Up Close, the sensory workshop, or both.

BOLD BITS
Compassion and condolences to former BOLD member and longtime ski guide Bob Scullion whose 23-year-old nephew died shortly after returning to Pittsburgh. Grieving the sudden, unexpected loss of someone so young is very painful.

In addition to Bob's ongoing skiing assistance, he was also a driver that persons needing a ride could count on.

CONGRATULATIONS to Aimee Yunt for having had a solo as part of her Community College choir's Christmas concert.

BOLD member Pat McCloskey provides the following link to his blog and invites you to check it out: http://chroniclesofmccloskey.com Fun stuff about skiing, cycling and other outdoor frivolities. Be a follower.

January's meal at the Pittsburgh Lutheran Center will be on Saturday the 24th from 5 to 7 PM. To sign up with Sherri Crum by 6 PM on Thursday the 22nd, phone 412-682-1800.

Jim Winaught's new cell phone number is 412-251-7812, and Terri Winaught's new cell is 412-508-4087.

Belated wishes to Don Ciccone whose birthday was in December, and Devon Evans, whose birthday was in November.
