LOOKING AHEAD
September's Board meeting will be on Tuesday the 6th, and October's will be on the 4th.

A first-time event being discussed is a garden party Nancy Leverett would host to show the herbs she grows which can be used to flavor food.
CULTURAL CONNECTIONS
On Saturday, August 13th at 2 PM, the Civic Light Opera will present South Pacific at the Benedum Center. Audio-description will be available, but there will be no discounts. Info and ordering? 412-456-6666.
The Chamber Music Society has allocated a limited number of tickets to BOLD, at least six of which have already been spoken for.
To ask about remaining tickets, call Joyce Driben: 412-521-4385. When tickets are gone, Joyce will put callers on a waiting list on a first-come, first-served basis. Because each ticket has "BOLD" on it so that the Chamber Music Society can track usage, you are encouraged to use your tickets or let Joyce know in a timely manner when you can't. Doing that will enable Joyce to give those tickets to persons who can use them. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
FUNDRAISING FACTS
BOLD recently received a $404.26 check from the Pittsburgh Foundation, that amount being what our members and friends gave on the May 3rd Day of Giving.
Because that online fundraiser was interrupted when the Foundation's website crashed, it has been rescheduled for September 21st.
The time will be 8 AM to midnight, with Veronique being willing to help persons with no computer access or who are having trouble navigating the website. With the hope that no glitches occur this time, you might want to donate early.
Much appreciation to Wendy Helene, whose Lions Club donated $200.
BOLD BITS
This Editor is happy to report that Ethel DeIuliis is doing much better since her accident and surgery. Carol Platt also continues to recover at home.
On a sad note, condolences and compassion to the family and friends of Helen Marquard who died in 2015. A memorial and celebration of her life was held last month. A Murrysville resident, Helen led hikes and was one of BOLD'S founders. Although this Editor didn't know Helen, she knew of her and is sure Helen will be greatly missed.
The Pittsburgh Lutheran Center for the Blind will host their annual ice cream social from noon to 2:30 on Sunday, August 7th.
Along with ice cream and many toppings, there will also be hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, or macaroni salad.
To ask Sherri Crum about the sign-up deadline, phone 412-682-1800.
Best Wishes to the rowers who will be going to Philadelphia the second weekend in August to compete in the Bayada race.
All the best also to Isaac, Penny Fleckenstein's son, who will be going to Chicago in August to attend Moody Bible College. To say more about the Fleckensteins, GREAT JOB!! to Penny's son, Eric who recently started working at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Just a couple of notes from Pat McCloskey: “I am writing my blog again. Hopefully our members can follow by hitting the button to the left of the articles in the margin and enter their email. They will get a notice of new posts. The site is www.chroniclesofmccloskey.com. Also, I am a correspondent for www.seniorsskiing.com. This is an online magazine that has lots of information for skiers and outdoor enthusiasts in general who are over 50 years old. Lots of discounts and information on skiing, cycling, hiking, etc. I encourage the membership to join this site. It is free. Again, enter your email and you will get the weekly online magazine for free. Plus you will see some articles from me. Regards to all at BOLD.”
Happy Birthday to John Dern, Leslie Gottschalk, Bonnie Granger, Ryan Leverett, Marty Mathews, Randi Shelton, Debi Sterling, and anyone else with an August birthday.
