Sunday the 17th: Kayaking with Venture Outdoors at North Park from 10 AM to 1 PM and a picnic lunch at Latrobe Grove. Kayaks will be two-seaters with one blind and one sighted person per boat. Contact reservationist Nancy Leverett, 412-561-3972, by 10 PM on Sunday the 10th. The $15 cost per person covers instruction on boating safety and techniques; an hour and a half of kayaking, and the picnic lunch. (Here's hoping you will enjoy this first-time activity which Nancy worked so hard to coordinate.)

Sunday the 31st: The Gottschalk Swim Party will be held from noon to 5 PM at 15 Cherrington Lane, Moon Township, 15108. Terri Winaught, 412-263-2022, will be the reservationist, the deadline being Sunday the 24th by 10 PM. Leslie will provide meats, buns, flatware, paper products, and baked beans; BOLD will bring beverages, and picnickers are asked to bring sides, salads, desserts and snacks.

ROWING AND DRAGON BOATING:

Because Rowing is held on different days, dates will not be given. Info? Sam (Samantha) Finigan: 412-410-7570.
Interested in Dragon Boating? Ask Sam about that, too.

PAST EVENTS

"Ray Jablonowski's May 21st hike was shortened by rain which made us tired of getting soaked," Marty Mathews told this Editor.

The picnic which Ray Jablonowski hosted on June 4th at Highland Park was the well-attended, fun-filled event it always is. Tons of thanks to Ray, volunteers from the Catholic Alumni Club, Reservationist Peggy Walsh, and everyone who helped. Counting BOLD members and Catholic Alumni Club helpers, there were about 34 picnickers. (See Personal Perspective.)

Although the number of hikers was four, counting leader John Dern, everyone enjoyed this first-time, June 5th hike.

"It was pouring on the way there," Tammi Swiantek reported, "so we went to the museum at Bushy Run first. By then, the rain had stopped and we were able to hike," Tammi concluded.

Thanks, John.

PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE

"Ray's picnic was just wonderful!" Peggy Walsh began.

"I got $5 for winning a round of Ray's card game, "Screw Your Neighbor," Joyce Driben added.

Everyone had praise for the hearty menu of steak, baked potatoes, corn on the cobb, salad, hot dogs, hamburgers, cupcakes, and beverages.

LOOKING AHEAD

Sunday, August 7th is when Waterskiing will be held. Important to mention is that persons needing adaptive equipment to ski more easily must request that accommodation and complete the required paperwork as soon as possible. Questions? Nancy Leverett: 412-561-3972. (More next month.)

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS

On Saturday, July 16th at 2 and 8 PM, The Civic Light Opera will present Shreck at the Benedum Center. This Downtown venue is at 7th Street and Penn Ave.

On Saturday, August 13th, the CLO will present South Pacific at 2 PM only. Although these shows will be audio-described, there will be no discounts, the prices ranging from $25 for balcony seats to $75 in other parts of the theater. Also be aware that the Benedum has a limited number of assistive listening devices which are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To order tickets, call 412-456-6666.

BOLD BITS

CONGRATULATIONS!! to Penny Fleckenstein's son, Isaac, who graduated from Northgate High School in June with honors and scholarships that will enable him to attend Moody Bible College. As a graduate with such high honors, Isaac was 14th in a class of 82, and was also the best history student.

Best Wishes to Penny Fleckenstein as she prepares to spend parts of July and August tandem biking from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC.

Get Well and prayers for Ethel Deiuliis who was in a car accident and is also recovering from surgery for a different health concern.

For completing the Fall, 2015 semester with all A's, Aimee Yunt made the Dean's list at Community College of Allegheny County. Although Aimee has yet to hear about the spring term, here's hoping that two A's and a B will put her back on the Dean's list.
On Sunday, August 7th, the Pittsburgh Lutheran Center for the Blind will host their annual ice cream social.

Sign-up deadline? Sherri Crum: 412-682-1800.

Safe travel to persons attending conventions and going camping.

Happy Birthday to Bonnie Newland, Carol Platt, Joe Steiner, Ashley Winaught, Joe Wassermann, and anyone else with a July Birthday.

Welcome to new BOLD member Josh Kinder who joined in May and whose birthday was in April. (At Ray Jablonowski's picnic, Josh did a great job really "whacking a ball around" to use one picnicker's words.)

Thank You to everyone whose hard work makes our newsletter available and accessible.

THE END
