FABULOUS, FANTASTIC FEBRUARY
With your help, BOLD'S Board strives to plan great events, so read on and let's see what strikes your fancy:
CALENDAR
Wednesday the 1st: From 1:00 to 5 PM, a tactile tour of the Children's Museum will be held. So that this event can start promptly at 1:00, please arrive by 12:45 PM. Friday, January 27 by 9 PM is the reservation deadline with Peggy Walsh: 412-683-6070.
Thursdays the 2nd and 16th: Mall Walking at the Ross Park Mall from 9:30 to 11:30 AM on the 2nd, and 10 AM till noon on the 16th.
To reserve for the 2nd, call Pat DePasquale, 412-492-1692, by 9 PM on Sunday, January 29. To sign up for Thursday the 16th, phone Toni Kelly, 412-965-4443, by 9 PM on Sunday, February 12th.
February 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd: Yoga from 2:30 to 4 PM at Squirrel Hill's Schoolhouse Yoga Studio: 2215 Murray Ave. The sign-up deadline with Veronique Schreurs, 412-225-4038, is the Tuesdays before by 9 PM.
Sundays the 5th and 26th: Downhill Skiing at Seven Springs from 9 AM to 3 PM. To reserve by the Tuesdays before, phone Dom Ceresa no later than 9 PM: 724-527-1857. If you mark your place and then must cancel, the Saturdays before by 8 PM is the deadline for calling Dom.
Tuesday the 7th: Board meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at One Smithfield Street. To let Tammi know you will be there, call 412-488-6298 by 10 PM on Sunday the 5th.
Wednesdays the 8th and 22nd: Mall Walking at the Monroeville Mall from 9 AM to 11 AM. To sign up with Joyce Driben by 9 PM the Thursdays before, call 412-521-4385.
Saturday the 11th: Swimming from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children: 201 North Bellefield Ave., Pittsburgh, 15213. Swimming is free as are the snacks which are to be eaten ONLY outside of the pool area.
LOOKING AHEAD
In March and April, there will be two more swimming dates, Saturdays the 18th and 8th respectively. Penny Fleckenstein will be the reservationist, the deadline being 10 PM the Wednesday before.
March's Ski Dates will be the 5th and 19th, the 19th being the last ski date.
March 7th will be the next Board meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at One Smithfield Street.
The Camp Kon-o-Kwee Weekend will be from Friday, May 5th till Sunday the 7th. Although Joyce Driben will be the reservationist with the beginning of April being the deadline, an exact date has yet to be set. Also, see March's and April's newsletters and call the Update Line, 1-773-597-4222, closer to the date for the cost, pick-up point, and return location.
ADMINISTRATIVE ADD-ONS
Since not everyone has renewed for 2017, Veronique Schreurs will be sending E-mails and several Board members will be making phone calls. You will be asked to send your $12 dues made out to W PA BOLD to 2269 Tilbury Ave., Pittsburgh, 15217.
CULTURAL CONNECTIONS
Saturday, February 4th is when Resident Artists will provide beautiful music as part of Pittsburgh Opera's Brown Bag Lunch Series. Held at the Opera's headquarters, 2425 Liberty Ave. in Pittsburgh's Strip District, this performance is free.
On Sunday, February 12th from 2 to 4 PM, Opera Up Close will feature songs from, "As One," a Laura Kaminsky composition. The cost is $5 per person unless you are a friend of the Opera, in which case this performance is free.
On Tuesday, February 21st, "As One" will be performed at the Opera's Headquarters: 2425 Liberty Ave., (entrance on 25th Street). To order your $10 ticket, contact Regina Connelley: 412-281-0912, x213.
If you will need sighted assistance as a patron of the Brown Bag Lunch Series or Opera Up Close, reserve with Marilyn Egan the Friday before at 412-281-0912, x242.
The City Theatre will present their next audio-described play, "The Royale," on Sunday, February 12th, with 2 PM being the curtain time and 1 PM being when there will be a sensory workshop for persons who are blind or have low vision.
To order tickets, phone the Box Office at 412-431-4900. Tickets cost $22 with persons who are blind having the option of a free companion ticket.
Now that the Pittsburgh Symphony is performing again, ask Joyce Driben if she has any tickets left. Joyce can be reached at 412-521-4385.
BOLD BITS
This Editor is happy to report that Jim Winaught is well on his way to recovery from neck surgery, and he also is well on his way to recovering from a minor stroke.
Welcome to new BOLD member Diane Hu, a good friend of Veronique's.
February's meal at the Lutheran Center for the blind will be on Saturday the 25th from 5 to 7 PM. To sign up for that meal between Saturdays the 11th and the 18th, phone Center Director Sherri Crum: 412-682-1800.
