ADVENTUROUS AUGUST!

JULY CALENDAR (remaining)

Sunday, July 30 from noon until 5:00 the very popular Gottschalk Swim Party with no cost at the same location as always in Moon Township at 15 Cherrington Lane Coraopolis, PA15108 but now the home of Leslie’s nephew Evan and wife Alexa. Leslie will provide burgers, hot dogs, kielbasa, buns, & baked beans, etc. Make your reservation by Tuesday July 25 by 10:00 p.m. with Terri Winaught at 412-263-2022 and tell her what side dish, salad, dessert or snack you can bring to share. We will do a 50/50 raffle. Please have money ready if you want to participate.

AUGUST CALENDAR

Tuesday August 1 will be the next Board meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at One Smithfield Street. All are welcome! Please contribute your ideas for future activities. To let Tammi know you will be there, call 412-488-6298 by 10 PM on the previous Sunday.

Wednesdays August 9 & 23: Mall Walking at the Monroeville Mall from 9 AM to 11 AM. To sign up with Joyce Driben by 9 PM the Thursdays before, call 412-521-4385.

Thursdays August 3 & 17: Mall Walking at the Ross Park Mall from 10 to 12 noon on both days.
To reserve for the 3rd, call Pat DePasquale, 412-492-1692, by 9 PM on Sunday, July 30. To sign up for Thursday the 17th, phone Toni Kelly, 412-965-4443, by 9pm on Sunday, August 13

Thursdays August 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31: Yoga from 2:30 to 4 PM at Squirrel Hill's Schoolhouse Yoga Studio: 2215 Murray Ave. Copay is $10. The sign-up deadline with Veronique Schreurs, 412-225-4038, is the Tuesdays before by 9pm

Sunday August 20 from 8:30 until 3:00, water skiing and picnic lunch with the Golden Triangle Water Ski Club, no cost but signed waiver required, meet at The Steel City Rowing Club at 100 Arch St. in Verona to get a short pontoon boat ride to the island, make your reservation by August 14 with Nancy Leverett at 412-561-3972. We do this activity along with Three Rivers Adaptive Sports, they have equipment that makes it possible to water ski with a physical disability, our members can and have used their equipment by completing a registration and waiver form due August 2017. You can find and download these forms by going on the internet to "2017 Allegheny River Rumble".

Sunday, August 26: Kayaking at North Park. Reserve with Tammi Swiantek, 412-488-6298, by August 15. We'll meet at Kayak Pittsburgh, (North Park, 10301 Pearce Mill Road, Allison Park Pa 15101), at 9:30 so we can sign waivers and be on the water from 10 to 11. The cost will be $10 per participant due at the event. This cost includes boating, drinks, and a pizza lunch afterward. Regular canoes are available if preferred.

LOOKING AHEAD

Coming up: next BOLD board meeting after August 1 will be September 5.

Saturday September 16, from 10:00 until 12:30, Nature hike of 2 & ½ miles of moderate trails led by County Parks Ranger, no cost, at Hartwood Acres.

Meeting place is Hartwood Acres Mansion parking lot. The park entrance is off Saxonburg Blvd, 1.2 miles north of where Harts Run Rd crosses Saxonburg Blvd.

Reserve by September 10, with Jeff Mulkern at 412-487-9469, veggie hoagies, water & iced tea will be provided for lunch.

Saturday, September 23, from 12:00 until 5:00, outdoor-indoor games party, no cost, at the home of Ray Jablonowski, 4551 Parade St., Pittsburgh PA 15207, reserve by Monday September 18 with Penny Fleckenstein at 412-415-3871.

Possible event on November 4: Holiday shopping at Grove City, $15. We will ask you to bring a guide if possible. Please call reservationist Peggy 412-683-6070 as soon as possible, but no later than October 1 if you are interested so we can decide on the feasibility. We will charter a bus, going from Human Services if enough people are interested.

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS

Free symphony tickets are not available during the summer, will resume in the Fall. Speaker series info will be given as soon as it is available.

Friday, August 11, 2017 1:00 PM–3:00 PM at the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, 4724 Baum Blvd Pittsburgh 15213: accessible movie: "The Interview" on DVD, 2hrs. Directed by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg. The host and the producer of the popular celebrity tabloid television show "Skylark Tonight" land an interview with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. As the two would-be journalists prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits the unlikely duo to "take out" Kim Jong-un. Comedy. Rated R. 2014. This movie will be played with a described audio track and with captions- all are welcome! This event will also feature delicious Korean appetizers and green tea!
