What’s left on the JANUARY CALENDAR

Saturday January 26 from 2 to 4pm: Celebration of Life to honor BOLD members who passed away throughout 2018: Gerri Wilson, Bill Brand and Rege Sullivan. The gathering will be held at 1 Smithfield St. downtown, Rachel Carson room. After a gentle discussion of these friends and a moment of respectful silence, light refreshments (vegies, grapes and cookies) will be served. Reserve by 9pm on Wednesday January 23 with Terri Winaught, cell 412-595-6187. Call Joyce Driben 412-521-4385 if you are unable to reach Terri.

FEBRUARY CALENDAR

Saturday February 2 & 16 from 9am to 12:30pm: Swimming twice a month! (9:15-11:15am, then pizza) at: The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh, 1405 Shady Ave. Pittsburgh PA 15217 in Squirrel Hill, optional donation: $5.00. It is a full sized warm indoor pool. Reserve with Penny Fleckenstein, 412-415-3871 by Wednesday January 30 & Feb 13.

Tuesday February 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM: Bold Board meeting at the Human Services building, 1 Smithfield St., downtown. All are welcome to attend. Please call Tammi 412-951-6528 by 9pm Sunday February 3.

Saturday, February 16; from 1 to 4 in the afternoon; Lunar New Year’s Party, at the spacious apartment of Janet Jain, 144 N Dithridge, Pittsburgh 15213, in Oakland, ($5 donation).

Asian finger foods will be served, and tea or water. We will play games of chance and maybe blind bingo. The reservationist is Marty Mathews, contact her by Sunday February 3 at home: 412-440-4909 so we have enough food.

Children’s museum February 19, 1-4pm, we will learn, play and have fun! Joyce is the reservationist, 412-521-4385, call by Wednesday February 13 by 9pm. Address: 10 Children’s way, 15212. Subsideized cost is $5/person, sighted guides are free. The cafĂ© is open at 12 if people want to eat before our visit, but be advised that it is very crowded at that hour.

Downhill ski dates for 2019, January 27, and February 10 and 24, and March 10 and 24.

Cross Country Skiing: Call to have your name put on an email list of people who will be contacted when conditions are good for cross country skiing. Dom Ceresa is the person to call for downhill and cross country skiing. If you’d like to be a sighted guide or a visually impaired skier, call 724-527-1857 and leave your phone and e-mail

Events at the Carnegie Library for the Blind (CLP-LBPH), 4724 Baum Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213:

Wednesday, February 20 from 1 PM to 2:30 is our next Accessible Tech Training at CLP-LBPH. Join us for a hands-on tech training focusing on tablet and smart phone accessibility options.

The Pittsburgh Lutheran Center for the Blind will host their next meal on Saturday February 23 from 5 to 7 PM. To sign up, phone Sherri Crum no later than 6 PM on Saturday February 16: 412-682-1800.

Welcome to new BOLD member Cyndee Jablonowski, Ray’s sister, and already a friend of Bold! Welcome to Al and Hope Pietrolongo!

Get Well Wishes to Donna Mckenree who recently had an asthma flare-up; Carol Platt, who was recently in Shadyside’s ICU and then in Rehab, and Jim Winaught, who also spent time in ICU and is now back home. Also, Best Wishes that J.R. Wilson will continue to feel “just fine” after having three stents put in his heart.

Congratulations to Terri Winaught who was humbled to have sung the National anthem twice in one week: First for Duquesne University Women’s Basketball, and then for men’s basketball.

Happy Birthday to Sherri Crum, Missy Demchak, Mitch Demchak, Maurice Johnston, Jamie Robinson, Aimee Yunt and anyone else with a February birthday.
