MARCH CALENDAR

Saturday March 2 & 16 from 9am to 12:30pm: Swimming twice a month! (9:15-11:15am, then pizza) at: The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh, 1405 Shady Ave. Pittsburgh PA 15217 in Squirrel Hill, optional donation: $5.00. It is a full sized warm indoor pool. Reserve with Penny Fleckenstein, 412-415-3871 by Wednesday February 27 & March 13.

Tuesday March 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM: Bold Board meeting at the Human Services building, 1 Smithfield St., downtown. All are welcome to attend. Please call Tammi 412-951-6528 by 9pm Sunday March 3.

Downhill ski dates for 2019, March 10 and 24.

Cross Country Skiing: Call to have your name put on an email list of people who will be contacted when conditions are good for cross country skiing. Dom Ceresa is the person to call for downhill and cross country skiing. If you’d like to be a sighted guide or a visually impaired skier, call 724-527-1857 and leave your phone and e-mail

Thursday March 7 Friendship Walk and Talk at Ross Park Mall from 10am till noon. To reserve, call Pat DePasquale by Sunday March 3: 724-939-3969 (note this is a new number).

Thursday March 21 Friendship Walk and Talk at Ross Park Mall from 10am till noon. To reserve, call Toni Kelly: 412-965-4443 by Sunday March 17.

Wednesdays March 13 & 27: Mall Walking will be held at the Monroeville Mall from 9 to 11 AM. To sign up with Joyce Driben the Thursday before: 412-521-4385.

Thursdays March 7, 14, 21 & 28: Yoga at Squirrel Hill’s Schoolhouse Studio: 2215 Murray Ave, from 2:30 to 4 PM. Cost, $10 per person ($15 optional if the group is small). Reserve the Tuesday before with Veronique 412-225-4038.

March 17, 12-5pm: house party at the home of Ray Jablonowski. Come to this generously hosted no-cost event at 4551 Parade St. Pittsburgh 15207. There will be indoor games, snacks & a delicious pizza & hoagies supper. Weather permitting, we may have a chance to play outside too. Reserve by 9pm Sunday March 10 with Peggy Walsh 412-683-6070.

LOOKING AHEAD

Save the date! Start practicing for our talent show on Sunday April 28 in the afternoon at Human Services, 1 Smithfield St. downtown. We will serve pizza and soda. Details in April newsletter.

Camp Kon-o-kwee weekend from Friday May 10 – Sunday May 12. Reserve with Joyce Driben 412-521-4385 by April 15, 9pm. Note that the buildings and all the grounds are now smoke free! People will depart on Friday May 10 from the Human Services Building, 1 Smithfield St. downtown. Arrive by 5:30pm. Returning to the same location on Sunday May 12, set up your Access for 1pm.

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS

Pittsburgh Opera: two events at headquarters in March: 2425 Liberty Ave., 25th street entrance, Pittsburgh 15222. Reserve in advance with Marilyn Egan, 412-281-0912, Ext. 242:

First event: Saturday March 9, 12pm: Brown Bag concert, lasts 1hr, coffee & cookies afterwards.
Second event: Sunday March 17, 2pm: Opera up close – “La Bohème”, lasts about 1 1/2hr.

City Theatre, 1300 Bingham St. South Side 15203: Sunday March 24, 1pm Blind/Vision impaired workshop, 2pm: Audio-described performance of “The Roommate”: For $22 ticket with or without sighted companion call 412-431-4900, Option 3.
Then on Tuesday April 2 at 7pm at the Benedum downtown 15222: the opera “La Bohème”. To order an $11 ticket for this Audio-Described performance call Regina Connelly 412-281-0912, x213.

BOLD BITS

Events at the Carnegie Library for the Blind (CLP-LBPH), 4724 Baum Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213:
Wednesday, March 20 from 1 PM to 2:30 is our next Accessible Tech Training at CLP-LBPH. Join us for a hands-on tech training focusing on tablet and smart phone accessibility options.

The Pittsburgh Lutheran Center for the Blind will host their next meal on Saturday March 23 from 5 to 7 PM. To sign up, phone Sherri Crum no later than 6 PM on Saturday March 16: 412-682-1800.

Get well wishes to Carol Platt and best wishes for a continued recovery to Jim Winaught who is much better.
