JUST FUN IN JULY
Corrections to June's newsletter: Dragon Boating began on May 31st, the time being 11 AM TO 1:30 Pm; and June 26th is NOT a Mall Walking reservation deadline.
From corrections to July events: the Board meeting will be on Tuesday the 8th; Mall Walking will be on Wednesdays the 9th and 23rd; Ice Skating will be on Thursdays the 10th and 24th; Rowing will be every Thursday with extra sessions available to competitive rowers; Dragon Boating will be every Saturday; fishing will be on Sunday the 13th; and the Gottschalk Swim Party will be on Sunday the 27th. (See calendar at end of newsletter for sign-up deadlines and reservationists' numbers.) To ask Penny Fleckenstein if there will be cooking classes in July, phone 412-415-3871. To find out about upcoming yoga classes in Squirrel Hill at $15 per person, call Veronique Schreurs: 412-225-4038.

PAST EVENTS
Attendance at Mall Walking and symphony concerts remains good (see Cultural Connections for Symphony info). (This Editor has no Ice Skating updates). Due to only 10 people having signed up, the June 7th live auction was postponed (see Fundraising Facts).

As of this writing, 13 BOLD members have signed up with Peggy Walsh for the June 14th Highland Park picnic (more info in August's BOLD Ventures).

LOOKING AHEAD
August's Board meeting will be on Tuesday the 5th; September's meeting will be on Tuesday the 2nd; and there will be no Ice Skating in August.

Thanks to Penny Fleckenstein’s hard work and research, BOLD and the Friendship Group will collaborate on a two-hour Gateway Clipper cruise and buffet picnic lunch. Saturday the 30th is when this event will be held from noon until 2 with an 11 AM boarding time; Penny Fleckenstein, 412-415-3871, will be the reservationist; and the cost will be $25 per person if 15 or more sign up, the money being due by August 10th, the sign-up deadline being July 17th by 10 PM. Please send your $25 check or money order, made payable to Western PA BOLD, to Veronique Schreurs: 2269 Tilbury Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Our plan is to have a sighted volunteer for every person who is blind.

August 24th is when the Steel City Ski Club will host waterskiing. The club will provide the main dishes, and attendees are asked to bring sides to this free event. Since we are still recruiting a reservationist, check the Update Line after the July 8th meeting, by which time there should be a reservationist. The meeting place will be the Sylvan Canoe Club on Arch Street in Verona (call Update Line closer to this date for the exact address).

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS
This Editor thanks Joyce Driben for getting Pittsburgh Symphony tickets to so many concertgoers and also for tracking their use, each task being time-consuming. Budgets permitting, it is likely that Heartstrings will continue to donate tickets when concerts resume in the fall. There will be no Tuesday Music Club concerts during the summer.

FUNDRAISING FACTS
Because so few people signed up for the auction that was to have been held on June 7th, this fundraiser has been rescheduled for the fall. With the hope that more people will sign up, we are planning to pair it with an Indoor Picnic and games. Once we decide on a date, this Editor will give it in several newsletters; announce it on the Update Line several times; and list the donations we have by those times.

BOLD BITS
The Pittsburgh Lutheran Center for the Blind will host their annual ice cream social on Sunday, August 3rd after 11 AM services. In addition to a variety of ice creams and toppings, there will also be hot dogs and sides. To let Sherri Crum know you will attend, phone 412-682-1800 by 6 PM Thursday, July 31st.

Congratulations to Penny Fleckinstein and Marty Mathews for excellent performances at a Friendship Group meeting on June 12th. Penny sang and Marty played the flute.

Happy Birthday to Bonnie Newland, Carol Platt, Joe Steiner, Pat Turner, Joe Wassermann, Ashley Winaught, and anyone else with a July birthday.

Happy Anniversary to Jim Winaught who will be married 9 years on July 8th.

If you have a BOLD Bit, bring it to a Board meeting; phone Terri Winaught at 412-263-2022; or email t.winaught@verizon.net. Also feel free to use this contact information to give Terri newsletter feedback (so far, this Editor has heard from one person who didn't like the format of June's newsletter)

Tuesday the 22nd: 10 PM deadline to mark your place with Terri Winaught, 412-263-2022, for the Gottschalk Swim Party. When reserving, let Terri know what you will bring, Leslie's preference being that picnickers bring fewer desserts and snacks. When coordinating rides, preference will be given to BOLD members with non-members getting rides as available. Tuesday the 22nd is also the 10 PM deadline to sign up for Ice Skating.

Wednesday the 23rd: Mall Walking at the Monroeville Mall.

Thursday the 24th: Ice Skating from 2:30 to 3:30 PM at the Mount Lebanon Recreation Center.

Sunday the 27th: Swim Party and picnic (swimpnic) at Leslie's Father Warren's Moon Township home. Address? 15 Cherrington Lane from noon to 5. Because of how time-consuming cleanup is, Leslie emphasizes the need for guests to leave no later than 5 so that Leslie and helpers have more time to return this beautiful, large home to the condition in which they found it.

This Editor thanks Marty Mathews, Veronique Schreurs and the Braille Team led by Tina Wassermann.
