REMINDER: PLEASE PAY YOUR DUES! Thank you if you already have. 

The dues for 2022 are still $12. Please send your check made out to W PA BOLD to PO box 8114, Pittsburgh PA 15217. Call Veronique 412-225-4038 if that is a hardship, and you would like to remain in Bold.

The following WPA BOLD Board positions are proposed for a two-year term: President: Nancy Leverett, First Vice President Jeff Mulkern, Corresponding Secretary Veronique Schreurs, and for a one-year term, Treasurer Ryan Leverett. We will vote by acclamation on February 15 on the chat phone call at 7 pm.  BOLD members, please join the chat call to ask any questions and learn about the new officers on BOLD's Board.

After the election, the Board will be as follows:

President: Nancy Leverett, First Vice President Jeff Mulkern, Second Vice President Penny Fleckenstein, Treasurer Ryan Leverett, Recording Secretary Karen Seligman, Corresponding Secretary Veronique Schreurs, Fundraising Chairperson Terri Winaught, and Outreach Chairperson Carol Lubecki, Past President Tammi Swiantek.

WE ARE CONTINUING OUR NEW CONFERENCE CALL SYSTEM!   Please read! The number to call is (385)799-9487. There is no passcode for participants. To mute yourself, press *6, same to unmute. This info will apply every time “conference call” is mentioned in the newsletter. (Comcast users no longer need separate instructions.)

Anyone can hear a recording of the newsletter. Instead of mailing out cassette recordings, people can call (401) 252-0029 Access Code: 265365#. 

Please note: Regarding covid-19, The board decided that for our in-person activities all participants are to be fully vaccinated (on the honor system) and have to wear a mask when possible.

CALENDAR

Every Thursday from 2:45pm, until 3:45pm, on the conference line YOGA KEEPS GOING free of charge to participate! Thank you to those who sent a contribution.  Call Veronique 412-225-4038 if you want to be added to the email list for yoga. If you are enjoying yoga, please consider sending a donation to BOLD. 

Reminder of the change to our popular weekly chat session!  We will be skipping the chat session the first Tuesday of the month until further notice. The rest of the month starting at 7 pm we will have a one-hour chat session where our Bold members can connect with each other or ask for help.

Call the conference line to join and if you don’t have free long distance on your phone, call Joyce 412-521-4385 at least one hour ahead, to be tapped in. The conversation doesn’t have to be BOLD related. We are trying to have only one person talk at a time after the initial 5 minutes. The moderators are: February 15: Nancy, February 22: Karen, (skipping March 1), March 8: Jeff, March 15: Penny, March 22: Terri, March 29: Karen.

There are cash prizes that if WPA BOLD members win will go to WPA BOLD as a donation.

No need to sign up. Just show up using the sign in listed at the beginning.

Ray will be on early at 6:30 pm Eastern for anyone that wants to be sure they can get in or would like to provide the numbers for their card.

There is no charge for ice time or skate rentals thanks to sponsorship by the Penguins Foundation. The concession stand will be open to purchase beverages & snacks. BOLD is treating you to free pizza! The pizza will be delivered to the Hunt Armory and we will eat it there during the skate

MARCH

Tuesday, March 1, from 6:30 to 8;30 BOLD Board Meeting by phone. This is a virtual Board Meeting! Any non-Board Members who want to attend must call Nancy at 412-561-3972 by February 27.

(Sunday February 27), Sunday March 6, 2022 and Sunday March 20, 2022 ski days, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, at Seven Springs Resort, we will be following their COVID safety guidelines. No cost for ski equipment and lift tickets, reserve by the Thursday before by 9 pm, if you are a visually impaired skier who needs a ride or you can provide transportation, call Nancy Leverett at 412-561-3972 or sighted guides contact Scotto Gray <scottog@yahoo.com>. Everyone is responsible for their own lunch.  

Monday March 14 at 7pm by conference call: Game night with Penny! Dial in and have fun! Just show up, no need to reserve.

Saturday March 19th noon to 2:30 PM: Bowling at Arsenal Bowl in Lawrenceville, 4310 Butler Street, Pittsburgh PA 15201, but the Lawrenceville address to be used for Access Transportation is 212 44th Street, Pittsburgh PA 15201. ** Please note the bowling alley is on the second floor and entry necessitates going up a flight of steps.

Thanks to the Top Cat Bowling League, guide rails to accommodate blind or visually impaired bowlers will be in place. The rails are placed alongside the bowling approach and extend back from the foul line toward the seating area. The bowler slides one hand along the guiderail while releasing the ball with the other hand. Top Cat members will be available to familiarize bowlers with the use of guide rails.
Cost for bowling, including shoes, for Bold participants is $5, to be paid on the day of the
event. Payment is by cash only.

Monday March 21 at 7pm by conference call: Celebration of life for our members who passed away in 2021: Janet Jain, ski guides Pat Rossi and Brian Lunt. Terri will facilitate. Optional: please prepare a brief memorial story. Terri will sing a song.

LOOKING AHEAD

Herbal plant container workshop Saturday April 30. It will be held at Wilkinsburg Garden Dreams, 806 Holland Ave. Wilkinsburg 15221. People will learn about plants, and get some to take home. $5/person to participate. Actual time and details in the next newsletter.

Tentative plans for a weekend at Camp Kon-o-kwee May 13, 14, 15! A decision will be made mid-March, it is not a sure thing yet! This time, we need to bring sheets, blanket, a pillow, towels. If people don’t want to bring them, they can reserve them ahead of time and rent them for $15. The cost is $70, which includes $10 for the bus. Please bring a tip for the bus driver. There are scholarships available if you are unable to pay. Call Joyce at 412-521-4385 if you need a scholarship. Reserve with Joyce by 8 pm April 8 and your payment must have been received by April 8. Send your check made out to W PA BOLD to PO box 8114, Pittsburgh PA 15217.

Prime Stage is excited to announce our Audio Description Performance of Wrinkle in Time on Friday, March 11th, at 8:00 PM. At 7:00 PM we will offer a voice recognition with the actors and Nathan Ruggles will be your describer.  
The Actor Voice ID is at 7:00 PM, The Performance begins at 8:00 PM
The Performance will be over by 10:20

Condolences to the family of Brian Lunt who passed away in December. Brian was a ski guide, his many contributions to BOLD include the video on ski instruction that is used by several ski schools in the country. 

Ongoing prayers for Natasha Kinder as she deals with difficult concerns.
CONGRATULATIONS!! to Clare and Luke on the birth of a boy in December,
2021. (Luke and Clare were both lifeguards when BOLD held swimming at the school for the
blind. This is also their first child.)

Congratulations also to Penny's son, Isaac on his January 14, 2022 marriage to Talia whom he met at Bible college.
Soft sighs and warm wishes to Peggy Walsh as she deals with a serious health challenge.
Positive energy to Terri Winaught as she works through mixed feelings about having retired.
