At the February 15 election by acclamation, the board was ratified!

This info will apply every time “conference call” is mentioned in the newsletter. (Comcast users no longer need separate instructions.)

Please note: Regarding covid-19, The board decided that for our in-person activities all participants are to be fully vaccinated (on the honor system) and follow government guidelines about masks.

Every Thursday from 2:45pm, until 3:45pm, on the conference line YOGA KEEPS GOING free of charge to participate! Thank you to those who sent a contribution.  Call Veronique 412-225-4038 if you want to be added to the email list for yoga. If you are enjoying yoga, please consider sending a donation to BOLD. 

Reminder of the change to our popular weekly chat session!  We will be skipping the chat session the first Tuesday of the month until further notice. The rest of the month starting at 7 pm we will have a one-hour chat session where our Bold members can connect with each other or ask for help.

Call the conference line to join. The conversation doesn’t have to be BOLD related. We are trying to have only one person talk at a time after the initial 5 minutes. The moderators are March 15: Penny, March 22: Terri, March 29: Karen, (skipping April 5), April 12: Veronique, April 19: Terri, April 26: Nancy.

Monday March 14 at 7pm by conference call: Game night with Penny! Dial in and have fun! Just show up, no need to reserve.

Saturday March 19 noon to 2:30 PM: Bowling at Arsenal Bowl in Lawrenceville, 4310 Butler Street, Pittsburgh PA 15201, but the Lawrenceville address to be used for Access Transportation is 212 44th Street, Pittsburgh PA 15201. ** Please note the bowling alley is on the second floor and entry necessitates going up a flight of steps.

Thanks to the Top Cat Bowling League, guide rails to accommodate blind or visually impaired bowlers will be in place. The rails are placed alongside the bowling approach and extend back from the foul line toward the seating area. The bowler slides one hand along the guiderail while releasing the ball with the other hand. Top Cat members will be available to familiarize bowlers with the use of guide rails.
Cost for bowling, including shoes, for Bold participants is $5, to be paid on the day of the event. Payment is by cash only.

Monday March 21 at 7pm by conference call: Celebration of life for our members who passed away in 2021: Janet Jain, ski guides Pat Rossi and Brian Lunt. Terri will facilitate. Optional: please prepare a brief memorial story. Terri will sing a song.

APRIL

Monday April 4 at 7PM: Chat with Wisconsin BOLD. We are the host, on our conference line.

Tuesday, April 5, from 6:30 to 8;30 BOLD Board Meeting by phone. This is a virtual Board Meeting! Any non-Board Members who want to attend must call Nancy at 412-561-3972 by April 2.

Wednesday April 6, from 7-9:30PM: Bingo by zoom with Wisconsin BOLD. Please refer to the info on March 16 on how to dial in. Also, only one bingo card per player, and your numbers must be registered with Ray Tweesdale (262) 224-5517.

Sunday April 10, 1-3PM Hike at the Allegheny Cemetery in Lawrenceville, meet at the gate at 4715 Penn Ave. Bloomfield. The leader is new member April Miller. People can choose to be in a fast-paced or in a slower group. Reservations: call Veronique 412-225-4038 by Wednesday April 6 at 9PM. There are restaurants nearby.

Saturday, April 30, Container gardening workshop from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM cost $5 per person at Garden dreams Urban Farm and Nursery 806 Holland Ave., Wilkinsburg.
All facilities are accessible and this is a rain or shine event.
Participants will have personalized plant selections, with a variety of plant starts from herbs, flowers or vegetables suitable for indoors, patio or vegetable patch. Up to 18 plants per person with a carrying container provided and print or braille labels.

LOOKING AHEAD

We are going ahead with plans for a weekend at Camp Kon-o-kwee May 13, 14, 15! Note: it is not a sure thing yet! We need enough people to sign up. Change: no extra cost for linens. The total cost is $70 per person for the week end and no refunds after April 8 unless there is a medical emergency.  The bus pick up is at 1 Smithfield St. Friday evening and you need to be there before 5:30 and return drop off is same place Sunday, approximately at 12:30. There will be more details when you sign up.  Please bring a tip for the bus driver. There are scholarships available if you are unable to pay by talking to Joyce at 412-521-4385.  All need to reserve with Joyce by 8 pm April 8 and your payment must have been received by April 8. Send your check made out to W PA BOLD to PO box 8114, Pittsburgh PA 15217. We will not cash your check until we are sure we have enough people.

BOLD BITS

Condolences to the family of Norman Armstrong who passed away recently. Norman was one of the people helping to build a tandem-like bicycle that we used on some of our outings. 
 
Soft sighs and warm wishes to Peggy Walsh as she deals with a serious health challenge. Get well wishes are also offered to Jim Winaught who was recently hospitalized with a diagnosis of a blood clot and a stroke. Additional get well wishes or offered to Cindy Perseo and Diann Popoleo.
 
Happy April Birthday to Carrie Fisher, Ray Jablonowski, Jim Wiseman, Larry Wiseman and anyone else with an April birthday.
