PAST EVENTS

Tandem biking at the Tandem Connection was a great success. The sun was shining and the temperature was comfortable. Many thanks to Scott Gray for organizing the 13 tandem bikes, captains and visually impaired bike riders. Special thanks goes to Jenny Senko for helping us to borrow tandem bikes from Invision Sports at Slippery Rock University and Blindness and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh. Thanks to Scott, Bruce Leverett, and John Pirain for transporting bikes. Thanks to the sighted volunteers who gave rides to biking and captained the tandems and helped with lunch. Thanks to Penny’s friend and new BOLD member John Hucik for delivering the lunches to the tired starving bikers. Thanks to Nancy Leverett for taking reservations, and arranging rides.

LOOKING AHEAD

Saturday September 7, from 9:00 to 1:00, Tandem biking and lunch from the bike shop, no cost thanks to the generosity of Ray Jablonowski, same location: Tandem Connection 5 Georgetown Rd Canonsburg, PA 15317, reserve by Saturday August 31, with Nancy Leverett at 412-561-3972. PERSONAL PERSPECTIVES

By Cindy Perseo about the June 23 Tandem Biking. It was an early morning start. We got paired with captains, and I had a really nice captain named Samra. We had a splendid time. We rode 6 miles out and 6 miles back. I was really surprised that I could do that! It was just wonderful feeling the cool breeze and just riding along. We went over bridges, under bridges, and through a tunnel. My favorite part was making a Tarzan yell going through the tunnel. After we came back to the starting point, we had a great lunch at the bike shop. I would especially like to thank Nancy for getting this event in order. Excellent job!!! And all the captains who helped us, including Scott who paired us up.

By Nancy Leverett about the swim party. Gottschalk Swim Party July 6th for the first 2 and a half hours was hot and sunny while we swam and socialized in the salt water pool. Then we had our traditional burger and hot dogs with an abundance of deviled eggs, salads, and baked beans. We followed that up with more water melon and desserts than we could eat. It was only then that it started to thunder and lightning and rain, and rain some more. BOLD has been having the swim party at the Gottschalk’s for close to 40 years. It was the first BOLD activity my husband Bruce attended with me 36 years ago, as my date. Many things have changed since the first swim party. We miss our friend Leslie but her nephew Evan and his wife Alexa have been very gracious and welcoming. Thanks to Terri Winaught for taking reservations and arranging rides, and to cooks Ray and Missy, and all the drivers and sighted volunteers, and most of all to Evan and Alexa for hosting the swim party!
