PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE

Tandem Biking by Penny Fleckenstein

The weather aligned perfectly with Bold's tandem biking activity at Tandem Connection on Saturday September 7th. What a delight it was to meet new sighted participants who have previously helped with BOLD's skiing. It was also a pleasure to have Delbert join
us for his first time.

Scotto paired each visually impaired stoker (the person who pedals in back) with a capable sighted captain. Lori and I set off and enjoyed 12 miles of adjusting to each other and getting to know one another through conversation and riding style. She told me of her fondness for white lightning ice cream, an amazingly delicious dark chocolate minty flavor. We spoke of our families and our experiences travelling the Great Allegheny Passage.

All tandem teams and single bike riders arrived safely at Tandem Connection to Gatorade, clementines, and cookies which we devoured while waiting for our lunch orders to be fulfilled. Lunch was delicious as always and, most importantly, the company was awesome. Thanks to everyone for filling this perfect weather day with great memories.

THE END
