HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

Leftover from the October newsletter
Sunday October 27, 2-3:30pm: Opera up close of “Florencia en el Amazonas”. Note different location: Carnegie Library of Oakland, 4400 Forbes Avenue, Oakland, second floor Music Room. For tickets in advance, or assistance to get there from the carriage drive entrance (usual ACCESS drop-off wheelchair entrance), call Marilyn Egan, 412-281-0912, X242. It is a long walk, many steps before reaching the elevator to go to the second floor.

REMINDER OF OUR NEW BOLD POLICY

New policy starting in October for all activities with BOLD that have no cost to participate. (Note: not all activities are free. This policy applies only to the free ones). There will be a $15.00 penalty for not showing up or canceling for an event without a good reason. We have received donations that are making it possible not to charge for some activities. There are still costs to BOLD. By not attending an activity that you have signed up for you may be inconveniencing many people or taking the place of someone who did want to attend!

ADMINISTRATIVE NOTICES

We would like you to volunteer for one of these positions: President, First Vice-President, Corresponding secretary (editor of the newsletter). Please call Tammi 412-488-6298 to nominate yourself. Aren’t our activities fun? We are having a lot of fun also putting together interesting outings, and we would like more participation. Come to a BOLD board meeting (see below) and find out. All are welcome.

Get Well Wishes to J.R. Wilson who recently spent time in the hospital due to heart issues.

CONGRATULATIONS! To Jim and Larry Wiseman whose story appeared in a September issue of the Post Gazette. Specifically, the reporter who interviewed the Wisemans and followed them as they traveled along busy Bloomfield streets and rode the bus focused on their accomplishments as people who are blind.

On September 29, there was a Post Gazette article about Pittsburgh Mercy in which Terri Winaught was featured. As part of that article, Terri was shown typing on her computer with JAWS.

Welcome to new BOLD member Susan Oberlander, partially sighted, who lives in the North Hills and would like to join us on the trip to Grove City, so she became a Bold member!

Happy Birthday to Bill and Tom Burgunder, Susan Etters, Donna McKendree and Mark Pugh and anyone else with a November birthday.
Thanks to all who contributed to the making of this newsletter.

PAST EVENTS/PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE
By Peggy Walsh

Many thanks to Ray, Cyndee and Bob Jablonowski, and helpers Joanne, Bill, Rick and Boldsters Bruce, Carrie and John, Penny’s friend. Without them there would have been no hike before dinner, outdoor games such as corn hole, bocce and tee-ball, or snacks and beverages plenty!

The traditional pizza-hoagies supper was as usual delicious and plentiful, and cupcakes and fruit squares from Kimberly S. lent the occasion sweet endings indeed!

Indoors there were darts, word games and of course Screw your neighbor, the popular card game of friendly competition. There were lots of winners, only a few people who didn’t win, all they had was fun!

Seriously, this was as usual a popular, delightful event. We had 19 participants, and a splendiferous time had by everybody!
