BOLD Address Change:

Once again at the top of this newsletter, we are showcasing BOLD’s fine new mailing address. (Yes, I know that we always display BOLD’s mailing address with no particular mention, but this one is still very special.) Beginning immediately, please use this new address for snail mailing to BOLD.

BOLD Membership Directory and Dues

BOLD will put out a Membership Directory. The last one was sent out in 2020. To be included in the directory and get the Newsletter in print or braille, you must pay or have paid your $12.00 dues for 2022.  Anyone who pays dues for 2022 now will also count for 2023. We are starting to collect dues again now that we are having in-person activities. For membership purposes we need your name, address, email address, home phone, cell phone, and birthdate. We also need your vision status: sighted, partial, or blind, and your newsletter preference: email, print, large print, or braille. If anything has changed since 2020 and if you’ve already paid your dues for 2022, email your updated membership information to Ryan at ryanjleverett1@gmail.com. If you haven’t paid 2022 dues make checks payable to WPA BOLD and send them along with your membership information to the new address for BOLD listed at the beginning of the Newsletter. The Membership Directory will contain the following information for each member: Name, email address, Zip Code, Home phone, cell phone, and vision status: sighted, partial, or blind. You can request not to be listed in the Membership Directory; however, we do need you to send us your information for our records. Thank you for your cooperation.

BOLD BITS

A bunch of get-well wishes go out to Dave Popoleo who at this writing is in the hospital. Hopefully by the time you see this he will be recovering at home!

Continued warm get-well wishes and prayers for Susan Lichtenfels, Diane Popoleo, and Veronique Schreurs as they continue to recover from hospital and rehab stays.

Please continue to wrap Jim Winaught in warm wishes and many prayers as he continues to deal with some serious issues with his eyes.

From Peggy Walsh: “Thanks to BOLD members for all of the get-well wishes and prayers. I am now in recovery mode!” Also, Peggy says that she had some braille cookbooks that she wants to give away. If you are interested in seeing what cookbooks she has get in touch with Peggy at 412-683-6070.

A sad note: It has just come to the attention of the newsletter team that Jerry Penfield, a BOLD member, passed away in March.

Happy October Birthday to: Dan Cornell, Norma Caquatto, Cindy Flerman, Mark Grasak, Jim Musto, Kimberly Smythe and anyone else celebrating an October birthday!

MY BOLD TAKE
By Debby Hill

On Saturday September 10th when we went to Ray Jablonowski’s home for the picnic, it felt like a fall day, a little cool even though it was still summer. But that didn’t stop the fun! Ray was an energetic host, making sure that everyone had a game to play and something to drink or snack on. I had never seen a shuffleboard before, so it was fun giving it a try. In the middle of the afternoon Ray decided it was time for a walk. If you lived in Ray’s neighborhood you could sure get your exercising by walking because there were quite a few Pittsburgh ups and downs. And then, we capped off the day with some good pizza and hoagies. Thank you to Ray, his sister Cindy, and all of Ray’s friends for a fine BOLD day!

MY BOLD TAKE
By Nancy Leverett

BOLD’s third tandem bike ride this summer was on Saturday September 17 on the Panhandle Trail. It was a sunny day with comfortable temperatures. There were 10 visually impaired stokers and their sighted captains riding our 4 tandem bikes we bought from Wisconsin BOLD plus some other borrowed tandem bikes.  We rode through southern Allegheny County into Washington County through the woods and small communities along the trail. BOLD provided delicious pizza for lunch from Hunner’s Pizza in Sturgeon. Many thanks to Scotto and Leslie Gray and all the volunteers who helped make it possible!
